Google services resume after brief global outage

Several Google services and mobile applications including Google Search, YouTube and Gmail faced a massive outage across the globe, including in India, on Monday.

As per Down Detector, many Google services including YouTube, Gmail, Google, Google Drive Google Play, Google Maps, Google Hangouts, Google Duo and Google Meet stopped working for many users in India and various other regions. Now, the services have started working again but still have some issues.

YouTube was strangely working on incognito mode in Google Chrome and eventually started working for everyone. Gmail and other Google services also started working with some minor issues. These issues should be fixed within a few hours as Google is working hard on bringing all the services back for its large user base.

As soon as YouTube stopped working, the company tweeted via its official Twitter handle, “We are aware that many of you are having issues accessing YouTube right now – our team is aware and looking into it. We’ll update you here as soon as we have more news.”

What Google said?

According to the Google dashboard, the problem appears to have started at 5.25 pm for Gmail. It looks like the problems with Gmail are continuing, while other services are back. According to the dashboard page, “The affected users are able to access Gmail, but are seeing error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behaviour.”

The rest of Google’s services appear to have been fully restored for users without any glitches, according to the dashboard.

Regarding the problem, the dashboard status had this to say, “We’re aware of a problem with Gmail affecting a majority of users. The affected users are unable to access Gmail.” All Google services faced an outage today, which was likely due to server issues, though the company has not confirmed this aspect. According to the dashboard, all services are back up and running for customers.
