- Grand Old Party’s presence in Goa Assembly down from 17 seats to 2
Panaji: Three-time Congress MLA from Goa’s Curtorim, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Tuesday, a day after resigning from the Grand Old Party.
Ironically, Lourenco’s exit comes just four days after he was named the party’s candidate from Curtorim for the 2022 Assembly elections.
He was the working president for Goa unit of Congress. He joined the TMC in presence of party supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata.
Lourenco landed in Kolkata on Tuesday for the event.
After quitting Congress, he had said that the party could not do justice to the state and he expressed hope that TMC would form the state government next year.
Lourenco is the 15th Congress MLA to quit the party. With this, the party’s strength in the Assembly is down to 2.
