Gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan Singh on Thursday walked out of the Saharsa jail after 14 years. He came out of the jail today at 4 am after completing all the necessary formalities. The Bihar government is also being severely criticized for the release of Anand Mohan. Meanwhile, a public interest litigation has also been filed in the Patna High Court against the decision of the Nitish government and a demand has been made to cancel the notification of the Bihar government.

In 2007, Mohan, 69, was convicted for the murder of the then Gopalganj district magistrate G Krishnaiah in 1994. He had been serving a life term in connection with “inciting a mob to kill Krishnaiah” during a protest march on December 5, 1994, in Muzaffarpur.
The Patna High Court had commuted his sentence to life in 2008. On April 10 this year, the Bihar government amended its jail manual to allow remission to convicts who have completed 14 years as against the prior provision of 20 years. On April 24, the Bihar law department ordered his release.
Mohan, who reached his paternal home in Saharsa’s Pachgachhia, said both Krishnaiah and his family suffered because of the lynching incident.
Lovely Anand, Wife of Anand Mohan, said on the release of her husband,” We express our gratitude to God, Bihar government and our supporters. Can’t express the happiness in words… We are also pained for the murder of Krishnaiah. Had this incident happened in front of Anand Mohan, he would never have allowed it to happen, we would have tried our best to protect him.”
