Kolkata: The spate of shifts from Bharatiya Janata Party to Trinamool Congress in West Bengal continues. On Monday, Ganga Prasad Sharma, BJP president of Alipurduar district, joined TMC in presence of party leaders like Sukhendu Sekhar Roy and Mukul Roy in Kolkata.

Sharma had confirmed on Sunday that he would be joining TMC on Monday. He said he was joining the party without any conditions.

Sharma was apparently miffed at the lack of importance given to the district president by BJP.

His move is seen as a major setback to BJP, considering that Alipurduar was the only district where BJP had won all the Assembly seats in the recent polls.

It was under Sharma’s leadership that the party won the Alipurduar Lok Sabha seat in the 2019 elections.

However, Sharma was said to be unhappy after credit for the recent Assembly polls victory in the district was given to Alipurduar MP John Barla.

Days after BJP national vice-president Mukul Roy returned to TMC, his aide Tapan Roy, too, left the saffron party and joined TMC
