A unique village in Gandhinagar has complete different criteria for the groom, his father and the other male members of the family at the time of fixing the marriage. Firstly, ensure that they are not drunk and have to undergo a breath test by at least 25 peoples of the bride’s family.
A Piyaz village in Kalol populated mainly by a Thakor community has a different way. If the groom and his family fails the test, he is not allowed to go ahead of the wedding and if they have married and get divorced because of alcoholic activity the groom’s family is forced to pay Rs 1 Lakh as a penalty to bride’s family.
We have seen many cases where the live of the women’s are destroyed because of alcoholic activities and they are abuse by the husband. So, the village elders have decided to use this test of groom’s and his family and also check the background of the family. So,Ramesh Thakor, Sarpanch of the Piyaj village had started doing this test and he said that this trick got succeed and now some people had stop drinking because of fear of not getting the partner.
