Four members of a crew including two Filipinos of a beached vessel in Alang in Bhavnagar have tested positive for COVID-19. Of the four, two are Indians and the positive cases also include the captain of the vessel ‘MV Jakarta’ that had beached at Alang on Saturday.
It should be noted that as per the protocol every vessel that comes to Alang for dismantling requires the crew to be quarantined at a paid hotel facility. Their samples are then mandatorily taken for testing. The crew cannot interact with anyone at the shipyard until the quarantine period is finished. It was during the testing that the four tested positive.
As of now the four are being treated at the quarantine facility. Earlier one more Indian crew member of another ship had tested positive. So far no cases have been reported among the workers at Alang which was allowed to function following Unlock 1.0 but has just 30% of its actual strength.
