Four people were detained by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Friday for allegedly faking a tweet in the name of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The fake tweet had posted fake information on Shah’s health. The detained were identified as Sarfaraz Virani and Sajid Nayani from Bhavnagar and Sarfaraz Memon and Firoz Pathan of Ahmedabad. The tweet had pointed to the minister suffering from bone cancer and had led to a pall of gloom among many of his supporters.
The fake tweet account which was an exact replica of his actual twitter account had Shah addressing the nation. In the alleged fake tweet, which was in Hindi, Shah said that all the decisions he took were in the interest of the nation. “I have no personal vendetta against anyone or any religion. For the last few days due to ill health I have not been able to do my duty and am sad to inform you that I have bone cancer. It further said that I hope in the holy month of Ramzan even the Muslims would pray for my health and once I recover I will continue to serve you,” the fake tweet read.
It should be noted that there were several speculative messages in social media pointing to how Shah had disappeared for sometime earlier. After the fake tweet was exposed, Shah had said that he does not hold any grudge against those who were behind the fake tweet.
