Former Surat Collector Mahendra Patel appointed as executive director of Metro Rail in state

The Gujarat government has appointed one more retired bureaucrat to the Metro Rail Corporation Limited. Mahendra Patel, former collector of Surat, has been appointed as the executive director of the Metro Rail Corporation. Patel at present is also the inc-ahrge for coordination of COVID-19 related activities in the district. Patel is an IAS of the 2003 batch and was the Surat Collector during the 2017 Assembly elections. During that election names of several societies had gone missing from the voters list. He is believed to be very close to the ruling government. During the 2017 elections it was speculated that Patel may be given a ticket but those speculations turned out to be unfounded.

It should be noted that the government has appointed five retired bureaucrats to various positions in the last one month. This includes three who have been given charge as Officer on Special Duty for Surat District for a year. CR Kharsan, who was earlier associated with the AMC was also made OSD for the AMC recently.
