Tharad MLA Gulabsinh Rajput on Saturday sought relaxation in electricity bills for farmers and others in the state. In a letter addressed to chief minister Vijay Rupani, Rajput a Congress MLA said that the lockdown and the further extension of it has severely impacted the farmers, salaried class and the labourers with all of them facing a dip in income.
He said that under these circumstances, the Gujarat government should also forego the electricity and water bill charged from these sections for a period of two months. He said that a similar relaxation was given by the Rajasthan government and it can be implemented in Gujarat too. He went on to add that it would provide succour to those who have been hit hard due to the corona virus and the resulting lockdown. Meanwhile, the announcement allowing migrants to travel by bus or train to their home state led to a crowd like situation particularly on the Gujarat-Rajasthan border (Amirgadh-Banaskantha) as labourers scrambled to reach home. Similar outpouring of crowds were also reported from Surat, which has a huge migrant population. Reports of many people failing to register for a pass to travel within or outside the states are also coming in.
