The door-to-door garbage waste collection system is already operational in the civilized city of Baroda for the disposal of daily domestic waste. Now, a smart underground waste collection system will be commenced by VMC under the Smart Cities Mission at a cost of Rs. 5.68 crores to eliminate the nuisance of open waste spots in the city.

Such system has been commissioned at Baranpura Naka. According to the chairman of the standing committee, the smart underground waste collection system is equipped with sensors and software and will track the level of waste in the containers. The system will send an alert to the control and command center when the container is filled unto its maximum capacity.
Baroda will be the second city after Surat in Gujarat to implement a smart underground waste collection system. Existing containers in commercial area will be replaced. Smart underground waste collection system will be installed at 40 places in all zones and the system will be operationalized.
This method will eliminate open nuisance spots and systematically collect and dispose of waste. The littering by stray animals will also be stopped. By July, the entire work of installation of hydraulic underground dust bin will be completed and the citizens will get direct benefit from it.
