Five of the eight Congress MLAs who resigned from the party have joined the BJP on Saturday. The formal induction of the five MLAs took place at the party’s head office – Kamalam – in Gandhinagar on Saturday afternoon. The induction happened in the presence of state BJP president Jitu Vaghani. All the MLAs and other people arriving at the venue were allowed to enter the premises only after a thermal screening.
Media reports said that the BJP may not give a ticket to all of the eight MLAs but only some of them. Since the eight MLAs resigned their constituency will see a by election soon. Only three or four of the former Congress MLAs are likely to be repeated in the by election. The five MLAs who are set to join the BJP include Pradyumansinh Jadeja of Abdasa, JV Kakadiya of Dhari, Brijesh Merja of Morbi, Akshay Patel of Karjan and Jitu Chaudhary of Kaprada. Of the eight only Pradyumansinh Jadeja, Akshay Patel and Mangal Gavit from Dang may be repeated. The other MLAs who quit include Pravin Maru from Gadhada and Soma Koli Patel from Limbdi
