A massive fire was reported from the Sakar-7 building near Nehru Bridge. The fire is believed to have started in an electric metre box on the ground floor at about 2.30 pm and soon spread to other floors. Almost 40% of the offices in the complex were shrouded in smoke forcing several of the employees of various offices to take cover on the terrace of the building.
One person died after he panicked and jumped from the fourth floor of the building. The fire brigade officials rushed to the spot and managed to control the fire. The deceased was identified as Jaydeepsinh Chavda, a resident of Vraj Vihar society in Vastral. Incidentally, Chavda had come to his friend’s office for some work. His friend was in the travel business. He, however, panicked and decided to jump from the fourth floor into the parking lot. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
The fire brigade rescued 40 people who were trapped on the terrace with the help of a ladder. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
