More than 24 hours after a fire was first reported from a unit in Sanand in Ahmedabad, the fire department is still battling to contain the fire. Fire department officials were quoted by the media as saying that it may take more time to control the fire although the intensity of the same has come down. Eight more fire tenders were sent to the site to control the fire that had broken out at a factory in the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) in Sanand area on Wednesday.

After the fire was reported at Unicharm India Private Limited, the Indian subsidiary of Japanese major Unicharm Corporation, 27 fire tenders were rushed to the sport. Fire officials had said that the raw material inside the factory was flammable which made it difficult to control the fire.

The fire apparently broke out due to a short circuit but the actual cause will be known only after a probe into the matter. Nearby factories had to be evacuated due to the fire. This was one of the largest units operational in Sanand.
