Four fire accidents were reported on Saturday in Gujarat as the country celebrated Diwali—the festival of lights. While many states had imposed a ban on the sale and purchase of firecrackers amid the coronavirus pandemic, the scene was as usual in Gujarat with people bursting firecrackers till late in the nights.
Fire accidents reported from Ahmedabad, Surat
On Diwali nights, fire accidents were reported from Ahmedabad, Valsad, Godhra and Surat. However, no one was injured in the incidents as the offices and factories were closed for Diwali.
The first incident was reported from Gundlav GIDC where fire broke out in a company called JP Enterprises. No one was injured in the incident. The second fire broke out in a chemical factory in Umargam GIDC. The fire in the chemical factory resulted in a panic in the nearby areas. Due to the inflammable raw materials stocked by the factory, the fire immediately spread. However, a quick response from the fire department brought the fire under control.
Similarly, a fire broke out at a garments store situated along Station Road in Godhra. A fire team from the civic body immediately responded and doused the flames. However, the fire destroyed stock worth a few lakh.
The fourth fire incident was reported from Ahmedabad in which a fire broke out in a refrigerator repairing shop in Harsidhdhi Chamber. As smoke started emanating out from the closed shop, the locals immediately alerted the fire brigade, which eventually doused the flames.
Surge in emergency calls to 108 ambulance service
As usual, a surge was reported in emergency calls received by GVK-EMRI that runs the 108 emergency ambulance service in Gujarat. Several of these calls were received from Ahmedabad.
