The family of a COVID-19 deceased were forced to flee with his half-burnt body after a mob disrupted the rituals in Jammu on Tuesday. As per media reports, the administration had to intervene to ensure the cremation later on at another place.
Reports said the COVID-19 patient, a 72-year-old resident of Doda district, had died on Monday. The son of the deceased was quoted as saying that civic officials had accompanied them to the cremation ground in Domana area when a mob gathered and disrupted the last rites.
The wife and two sons were the only one to have attended the cremation. But the mob began pelting stones and the family had to flee with the half burnt body of the old man in an ambulance.
The family had said they had sought permission to bring the body to their home district.
Later, the body was taken to a cremation ground at Bhagwati Nagar area of the city, where it was consigned to flames in the afternoon in presence of senior civil officials amid tight security.
