Five members of a family in Dahod committed suicide on Friday. The incident was reported from the Sujaibaugh area in the taluka. As of now, it is not known what drove the family to commit mass suicide.
The husband-wife and their three kids consumed poison to end their lives. The children were 7 years, 15 years and 17 years old. The father of the man said he was being harassed by his sister-in-law over some gold dealings.
The family was apparently under financial stress although police said it is too early to say what drove the family to kill themselves.
Investigations have revealed that Saifat Dudhiyawala (42) and his family were living in Betul Apartment in Sujaibaugh area. He lived with his wife Mehzabeen (35) and three daughters Arva (17), Zainal (16) and Husaina (7).
Saifat was into the business of providing disposable dishes.
Ahmedabad mass suicide
A similar such incident was reported from Ahmedabad in June this year. Six members of a family including four children were found dead in an apartment near Vinzol of Vatva GIDC area.
Of the six, two were adults and four were children. The adults were brothers Gaurang Patel and Amrish Patel. The four children were the two kids of each of the brothers. The one-BHK flat belonged to Gaurang. The brothers poisoned the children and then hanged themselves.
The bodies were found two days after the wives of the brothers filed a missing person complaint. Police had to break open the door of the flat to gain access to it. The bodies were found in a decomposed state and police suspected that the brothers killed themselves on the same day they went missing.
Investigations later revealed that the brothers were under financial stress and the COVID-19 lockdown had further added to their financial woes. Later the wife of one of the brothers also committed suicide unable to withstand the pain of losing her children.
