Elon Musk’s Tesla enters Indian market, set up office in Bengaluru


US-based electric car maker Tesla, whose founder Elon Musk is the world’s richest man, has entered the Indian market. It has set-up a company named Tesla India Motors and Energy in Bengaluru.

Last year, Elon Musk had indicated that his company would start selling its cars in India in 2021. Interestingly, Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari had said that Tesla would commence sales in India in 2021 and based on the market response, it will ascertain whether it wants to invest in assembly and manufacturing in the country.

Karnataka CM tweets on Tesla, then deletes it

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday tweeted about Tesla’s entry in India.

He had tweeted, “Karnataka will lead India’s journey towards Green Mobility. Electric Vehicle Manufacturer Tesla will soon start its operations in India with an R&D unit in Bengaluru. I welcome Elon Musk to India and Karnataka and wish him all the very best.”

However, the CM later deleted the tweet. There is no clarity on why the tweet was deleted.

Tesla India’s directors

The Indian arm of the company has three directors—Venkatrangam Sreeram, David Feinstein and Vaibhav Taneja. The company has an authorised capital of Rs 15 lakh.

While David Feinstein is the senior director of global trade and new markets (finance) at Tesla, Vaibhav Taneja is the chief accounting officer. The position of Venkatrangam Sreeram is not known.

Meme fest on Tesla’s entry in India

As the global electric car major entered the Indian market, Tesla started trending on Twitter. However, social media users started a meme fest on the development and some of them were hilarious.

Social media users also pointed out the pathetic condition of Indian roads and chaotic traffic, which is a big menace for a city like Bengaluru.
