ED raids premises of Punjab CM Channi’s nephew in illegal sand mining case

Chandigarh: In a development that is raising brows because of its timing, the Enforcement Directorate conducted raids at around 10 places, including the premises of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s nephew, in an illegal sand mining case.

An FIR in the case of illegal mining in Mohali was registered in 2018 by the Punjab police. Based on that, the Enforcement Directorate began investigating money laundering in the case.

One of the main accused in the case is Bhupinder Singh Honey, who is said to be related to CM Charanjit Singh Channi.

Bhupinder Singh is reportedly a director in a company that is involved in the case.

The ED raids were carried out at spots in Ludhiana, Mohali and Pathankot.

This included the residence of Bhupinder Singh in Mohali, according to officials.

The ED raids come just a month before the Assembly elections in Punjab on February 20.

Reacting to the development, Channi said that the raids were a way of putting pressure on him before the elections.
