Ahmedabad deputy municipal commissioner South Zone RA Mehta has been quarantined after his driver tested positive for Covid19 in the city. Earlier AMC commissioner Vijay Nehra had gone for self quarantine at his home after he came in touch with two people who had tested positive.
Later in the day in-charge municipal commissioner Mukesh Kumar and additional chief secretary Dr Rajiv Kumar Gupta had attended a meeting to review the Covid19 situation in the state. The meeting was attended by top officials of the AMC including deputy municipal commissioners. It should be noted that close to 80 employees of the AMC have tested positive for the Covid19 in the city so far while 14 people including 11 prisoners have tested positive for the virus in the Sabarmati Central Jail.
Meanwhile, the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Gujarat has made a representation before the state government seeking a six month tax holiday to help them recover from the losses due to the Covid19 pandemic and the resultant lockdown.
Ahmedabad has so far recorded 4,425 cases and 273 deaths, the highest in Gujarat among all districts. It also has 10 red zones due to the high number of cases there.
