Gandhingar: BJP’s Bharuch MLA Dushyant Patel had been named as the Protem Speaker of Gujarat.
Dushyant Patel succeeds Nima Acharya who had been handling the charge since Rajendra Trivedi’s resignation last week.
Acharya had resigned from the post on Monday.
The election for the post of Speaker is likely to be held during the next Assembly session scheduled on September 27-28.
Rajendra Trivedi had stepped down from his post on September 16. Hours later, he was inducted into the new government of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel as a Cabinet minister. He was given the portfolio of Revenue, Disaster Management, Law and Judiciary, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs. After his resignation, Acharya, sitting MLA from Anjar, was made Protem Speaker of Gujarat Assembly. However, she resigned, leaving the post vacant from September 20.
