Mumbai: Former Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde took oath as the new chief minister of Maharashtra at Raj Bhavan on Thursday evening. Along with him, BJP leader and former CM Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as the deputy CM.

While Fadnavis had announced at press conference hours earlier that Eknath Shinde would be the new CM, he had clarified that he would not be in the Cabinet.

However, shortly thereafter, BJP national president JP Nadda said, “BJP’s central leadership has decided that Devendra Fadnavis should become a part of the Govt. So, made a personal request to him and Central leadership has said that Devendra Fadnvais should take charge as Deputy CM of Maharashtra.”

Subsequently, Fadnavis, too, took oath along with Shinde.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and others took to Twitter to congratulate the duo.
