The two Special Investigation Teams (SIT) of Delhi Police Crime Branch started its investigation from Thursday night in Delhi violence case. After the SIT was constituted, the Additional Commissioner of Delhi Crime Branch first issued an appeal to the common citizens and media. In that appeal they said whoever has photos, video footage or whatever related to violence or any other relevant documents then they should provide it to the police within seven days and help in the investigation.
Both the SITs will immediately take over the investigation of the cases connected with northeast Delhi violence. All the FIRs have been transferred to the SIT, Crime branch. DCP Joy Tirkey and DCP Rajesh Deo will head SITs comprising four Assistant Commissioners of Police in each team. Additional CP (Crime) B K Singh will supervise both the SITs. Apart from this, all the FIRs registered in Delhi violence have been transferred to SIT.
The death toll in communal violence in Northeast Delhi has climbed to 38, due to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). While 34 deaths were recorded at the GTB Hospital in Dilshad Garden, three have been recorded at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital and one death has been recorded at Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital.
