As tension between India and China rises, the Delhi Hotel and Restaurant Owners Association decided not to provide accommodation to Chinese nationals. Around 3,000 budget hotels and guest houses with about 75,000 rooms in the city are part of the association. It has also decided not to use any Chinese products in their hotels and guest houses.
“Guest houses in Delhi will not provide any accommodation to Chinese nationals now onwards in view of the country’s activities,” Sandeep Gupta, the association president was quoted by the media as saying.
A boycott Chinese products call has been on the rise in India after 20 soldiers were killed in a violent face-off with Chinese soldiers in Ladakh last week.
Earlier the Railways cancelled a Rs471-crore railways contract given to a Chinese company. Later the government made it mandatory for sellers to mention ‘Country of Origin’ while listing their products in the Government e-Marketplace – a state-run online portal.
