New Delhi: A man, allegedly a terrorist who might have been planning a major attack on Navratri, was arrested by the special cell of Delhi police on Tuesday. They also recovered arms and ammunition from his possession.
The arrest was made from Ramesh Park area in Laxmi Nagar.
The man has been identified as Mohammad Asraf alias Ali. Believed to be from Punjab province in Pakistan, he was living in Shastri Nagar in the capital on a fake ID of an Indian citizen.
The police also found an AK-47 rifle with an extra magazine and 60 rounds, a hand grenade, two sophisticated pistols with 50 rounds on him, said sources.
The police have invoked Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Explosives Act and Arms Act against him.
Delhi on alert
Following inputs of a likely terrorist attack in the national capital, Delhi police commissioner Rakesh Asthana had held a meeting on Saturday to discuss anti-terror measures.
At the meeting, he had also given directions to launch a campaign to verify tenants and workers in the city.
