Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with chief ministers of various states through video conferencing on Monday. This will be the fifth such meeting between Modi and the state chief ministers since the Covid19 pandemic began.

Media outlets said that the focus of the meeting is likely to be how to get the economy going as the lockdown comes to an end on May 17. Several states have demanded relaxation in lockdown norms. The Opposition Congress has also asked the PM to spell out the road map once the lockdown comes to an end.

It is believed that more economic activities and relaxations may be allowed but no leniency is likely to be made for containment and red zones. India has seen a surge in Covid19 numbers with some states reporting more cases than others. This has prompted the Centre to send teams to 10 such severely affected states for better management of the situation.

The severely affected states include Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
