Day 1: Queues outside shops in city as lockdown eases, some reports of norm violations in state

Long queues of people outside shops amid social distancing was witnessed across Ahmedabad and several other cities of Gujarat as some of the restrictions under Lockdown 4.0 was eased on Monday.

As per the relaxations, shops and business units could function in Western Ahmedabad in areas outside the containment zone. The relaxations does not apply to East Ahmedabad, which has the maximum number of containment zones. The streets that had been deserted for so long, saw movement of people and vehicles too. The entry of GSRTC buses is not allowed in Ahmedabad while it is functioning in other districts barring containment zones.

In Mehsana, paan shop owners have decided to shut shop for one more day. Reports of social distancing being thrown to the wind in some parts of Panchmahals, Mahisagar and Anand districts were reported. In Vadodara, passengers were left in the lurch after the state transport bus services were not resumed. Lack of social distancing was also reported from some paan shops in the state while business and shops worked full fledged in Saurashtra.
