New Delhi: Dabur India Limited landed in a controversy for its adverstisement showing a same-sex couple celebrating Karwa Chauth. However, the ad met with lot of criticism, following which the company withdrew the ad and tendered an apology.
The advertisement for Fem bleach showed two women together celebrating the festival that is traditionally observed by women who pray for the long and healthy lives of their husbands.
The portrayal of a lesbian couple celebrating the festival triggered a backlash on social media. Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra took strong objection to the ad and said he had directed to the police to inform Dabur India to remove the ad or face legal action.
In its statement, Dabur India said, “Fem’s Karwachauth campaign has been withdrawn from all social media handles and we unconditionally apologise for unintentionally hurting people’s sentiments.”
