Chennai Super Kings (CSK) marked their return to the top of the table after registering a comfortable victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday.
Chasing 172, CSK openers continued their rich form and got off to a flying start, being in control of the proceedings right from the beginning. A display of timing and class from the CSK openers – Ruturaj Gaikwad (75) and Faf du Plessis (56) at the top comfortably helped Chennai chase down the target before SRH scored 171/3 on board.
du Plessis took charge of the big-hitting while Ruturaj kept knocking the ball and provided the majority of strike to his partner at the other end.
What CSK skipper said
CSK has been consistently winning games except for losing a match to Royal Challengers Bangalore. The resurgence of the Chennai squad after a dull performance last year has thrilled fans as well as critics.
When MS Dhoni was asked about the factors that led to the team’s turnaround from last year’s horrible performance, the skipper said it was because they have addressed the problems that led to their worst-ever IPL season. Dhoni said that most importantly the “players have taken more responsibility this year” which has led to their remarkable turnaround.
“I think addressing the problem,” MS Dhoni said at the post-match presentation after CSK registered their fifth successive win of the season.
IPL Points table
CSK is leading the IPL points table with 10 points and is followed by RCB that too has 10 points on the table but a lower net run rate. Delhi Capitals has occupied the third spot with eight points followed by Mumbai Indians with four points. KKR is on the fifth spot followed by Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals.
Sunrisers Hyderabad is at the bottom of the points table after losing five matches out of the six played so far.
