The country recorded over 3,000 new Covid19 cases taking the total number of such cases to 56,342. Data released by the ministry of health and family welfare said that Maharashtra, which has had the highest number of cases in the country, confirmed over 1,200 fresh coronavirus cases on Thursday. Delhi saw the biggest daily spike as it registered 448 new cases in a span of 24 hours.
The total number of deaths due to the disease stood at 1,886 with over 100 deaths being reported in a span of 24 hours in the country. In all there were 37,916 active cases in the country and over 16,000 have recovered from the disease. Active cases do not include dead and recovered patients of the disease.
The total number of cases in Maharashtra touched 17,974 with Mumbai alone accounting for over 10,000 of the cases. The total deaths in Maharashtra stands at 698.
Gujarat stood second with over 7,000 coronavirus cases. The state now has 7,012 cases and is the only state after Maharashtra to have crossed the 7,000 figure. The fatalities in Gujarat stand at 425, the second highest after Maharashtra. Tamil Nadu recorded 580 new Covid19 cases in the last 24 hours taking the total in the state to 5,409. It ranks third in terms of number of cases.
