- Government introduces facility to allow WhatsApp users to book appointment on the phone
New Delhi: Booking a slot for Covid-19 vaccination has become easier, with the government launching a new facility via WhatsApp. The move is expected to give a boost to the nationwide vaccination drive.
Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted, “Paving a new era of citizen convenience. Now, book #COVID19 vaccine slots easily on your phone within minutes.” He also listed out the steps for booking the vaccination slot.
“Send ‘Book Slot’ to MyGovIndia Corona Helpdesk on Whatsapp. Verify OTP. Follow the steps,” he added.
The users will be able to locate their nearest vaccination centre where they can book an appointment. This will help the millions of WhatsApp users who otherwise may not be able to go to the CoWIN website and book a slot.
Earlier, MyGov Corona Helpdesk and WhatsApp had introduced a facility to allow users to download vaccine certificates.
The government hopes to vaccinate all adults by the end of the year. In June, it launched a nationwide mega vaccination drive, claimed to be the biggest in the world.
So far, six vaccines have been approved for emergency use in India, the latest being Zydus Cadila’s ZyCov-D which can be administered to all individuals above the age of 12.
