Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the government will soon start coronavirus tests at every polling station in the containment zones of the national capital.

Stating that the Narendra Modi government was committed to controlling the spread of the disease he said a comprehensive house-to-house health survey will also be done in the hotspots for contact tracing to contain the spread of COVID-19.

“To prevent coronavirus infection in Delhi, the testing of COVID-19 will be doubled in the next two days and after six days testing would be increased by three times,” the Home Minister tweeted.

He said the Centre has decided to provide 500 railway coaches to Delhi in view of the bed shortages in the city.

He further said that a joint team of doctors of Union Health department, Delhi Health department, AIIMS and the three Municipal Corporation of Delhi will visit all coronavirus hospitals in the national capital to get an idea about the preparedness to fight the disease and will prepare a report on the same. Delhi has close to 39,000 COVID-19 cases and has reported over 1,200 deaths so far.

Earlier Shah had met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday to take stock of the COVID-19 situation in the capital. This was the second such meeting between the two in less than a week.
