New Delhi: India reported a total of 24,354 cases of Covid-19 in last 24 hours, the health ministry said on Saturday morning. A total of 234 patients succumbed to the infection during this period.
The death toll has reached 4,48,573, accounting for 1.33 per cent of the reported cases.
The active caseload of Covid-19 in the country is 2,73,889, or 0.81 per cent of the total cases. This is the lowest in 197 days, according to the ministry.
The daily positivity rate is 1.70 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate is 1.68 per cent.
A total of 25,455 patient recovered from Covid in last 24 hours, taking the overall recovery so far to 3,30,68,599.
62 lakh get vaccine in 24 hours
The overall vaccination figure has reached 89.74 crore. Of these, over 62 lakh doses were administered on Friday alone.
Global Covid death toll crosses 5 million
With a surge in Covid-19 cases across the world due to spread of Delta variant, the death toll, too, has increased. According to a report, the global death toll crossed the 5-million mark on Friday. Majority of the deaths are among those who did not get vaccinated.
India has said it will resume the export of Covid vaccine in October under its ‘Vaccine Maitri’ programme. USAID administrator Samantha Power has said India will play one of the most important roles on the planet to end the pandemic.
