Covid-19 cases in India drop to 18,795; lowest in over 200 days


New Delhi: Covid-19 cases in India saw a sharp drop on Tuesday, going below 20,000 for the first time in over 200 days. A total of 18,795 persons tested positive in last 24 hours, the health ministry said on Tuesday morning.

The daily death figure, too, was lower. As many as 179 patients succumbed to the infection during this period. The death toll has reached 4,47,373.

So far, over 3.36 crore persons have tested positive for Covid-19 in the country.

The daily positivity rate was 1.42 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate was 1.88 per cent.

The active caseload has dropped to 2,92,206 and accounts for 0.87 per cent of the total cases. The recovery rate is 97.81 per cent.

Kerala, which accounts for the maximum cases, has been reporting less than 20,000 cases. Now, over 20 states and Union Territories have been reporting less than 100 cases daily.


Vaccination crosses 87-crore mark

Another 1 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine were administered on Monday. This is for the fifth time that the single-day vaccination figure crossed 1 crore, tweeted health minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Thus, overall, more than 87.07 crore doses of the vaccine have been administered in the country so far.

Testing, too, has been ramped up, with more than 56.57 crore samples tested so far.
