The health ministry on Monday informed that 14,199 fresh cases of COVID-19 have been reported in India in the past 24 hours. The addition of the fresh cases has taken the COVID-19 case tally past 1.10 crore.
The ministry also informed that over 1.11 crore people have been vaccinated so far. Of it, over 31,681 people were vaccinated on Sunday.
So far, the biggest single-day surge of 97,894 COVID-19 cases was reported in India on September 17. The second-highest surge of 97,570 COVID-19 cases was recorded on September 12. It is followed by 96,551 cases reported on September 11.
Notably, India has already surpassed Brazil in terms of cases. It is now the second-worst hit nation due to the coronavirus pandemic after the US.
1.56 lakh deaths due to COVID-19
Also, 83 COVID-19 related deaths were reported by the ministry during this period. The addition of the fresh fatalities has taken India’s death toll due to the deadly virus to 1,56,385.
Previously, the death toll had crossed the 1,200-mark on September 16.
Similarly, the biggest surge of over 97,894 cases was reported on September 17.
1.06 crore patients recovered
Of the over 1.10 crore coronavirus cases reported so far, over 1.50 lakh are active cases of the virus. It is 1.36 per cent of the total caseload. Interestingly, over 1.06 crore cases have recovered from the viral infection so far.
Thus, the country’s recovery rate stands at 97.22 per cent. The recovery rate had marginally dipped for the first time on August 27, 2020, because of the surge in active cases. It again dropped marginally on September 7, 10 and 11, and on November 25, 26 and 27 due to a surge in cases. It also dipped on February 21 and 22. Otherwise, there had been a gradual rise in the recovery rate.
Over 21.15 crore samples tested
So far, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), over 21.15 crore samples for COVID-19 have been tested in the country. Of the total samples tested, 14.92 lakh samples were tested on September 24. Notably, it is the highest number of samples tested in a day. The second-highest number of over 14.23 lakh samples was tested on September 30. Over 6.20 lakh tests were carried out on February 21.
83 deaths in a day
Of the 83 deaths reported in a day, 35 deaths are from Maharashtra, three from Tamil Nadu and two from Karnataka. No death has been reported from Andhra Pradesh, whereas West Bengal reported three deaths and Uttar Pradesh reported one death. Gujarat reported one death, Madhya Pradesh four deaths and Delhi reported two deaths. Punjab reported six deaths.
No death has been registered each in Odisha, whereas Bihar reported one death and Telangana witnessed one death. No death has been reported from Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir.
No fatality has been reported each from Assam and Uttarakhand reported one death. One death has been reported from Puducherry. Jharkhand reported one death, whereas 15 deaths have been registered in Kerala.
