After a brief lull, COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad, as well as other cities in Gujarat, are again rising. Thanks to the laxity of the authorities who were for the past few weeks least bothered about COVID-19 safety protocols and its compliance by people.
Now, as the COVID-19 cases are rising across several states in the country and the Centre warning states not to be lackadaisical in their approach, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation as a knee-jerk reaction has declared three areas in the city as containment zones.
84 cases of COVID-19
On Wednesday, 84 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported from Ahmedabad—the highest in the past one month. The figure includes 81 cases in Ahmedabad city and three cases in rural areas. With the surge, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has again swung into action and three localities in Bodakdev, Gota and Nikol in Ahmedabad have been notified as micro containment zones. Around 152 houses are located in the micro containment zones.
The civic elections are being considered as a major factor behind the surge in COVID-19 cases. Notably, no COVID-19 safety protocol was followed by the political parties during public meetings and rallies.
Huge crowds gathered in these political events caring the least about COVID-19 safety protocols. Forget about physical distancing, people were not even wearing masks in these poll rallies.
