COVID-19: Ahmedabad reports 18 deaths, 178 cases in 24-hours; Gujarat’s case count at 3,301


Gujarat has reported 230 fresh cases of coronavirus in the past 24-hours ending at 5 pm on Sunday. The addition of the fresh cases has taken the state’s coronavirus case tally to 3,301.

After six deaths were reported from Gujarat on Saturday, 18 fresh deaths were again reported on Sunday that pushed the state’s death toll due to COVID-19 to 151. All the 18 deaths have been reported from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Hospital and Civil Hospital.

Out of the 230 new cases, 178 cases are of Ahmedabad alone, whereas Surat reported 30 cases, Anand reported eight cases, and Vadodara and Rajkot each reported four fresh cases. Gandhinagar reported two fresh cases. The districts of Banaskantha, Kheda, Navsari, and Patan have reported one case each.

With the addition of the 178 fresh cases till 5 pm on Sunday, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad has increased to 2,181—the highest in Gujarat. The city has also reported the maximum number of deaths in the state. After three deaths were reported on Saturday, 18 deaths were again reported on Sunday that pushed the death toll due to the deadly virus to 104 in Ahmedabad.

Apart from the 2,181 COVID-19 cases reported from Ahmedabad so far, Surat has reported 526 cases, followed by Vadodara with 234 cases, Anand with 49 cases, Rajkot with 45 cases, and Bhavnagar with 40 cases. Bharuch has reported 29 cases, Banaskantha reported 28 cases whereas the capital city of Gandhinagar reported 25 cases. Aravalli has reported 18 cases, whereas Panchmahals and Patan have each reported 17 cases.

Similarly, Chhota Udepur reported 13 cases, whereas Narmada and Botad each reported 12 cases. Mahisagar reported 10 cases. Mehsana has reported seven cases, whereas Kutch and Kheda each reported six cases. Valsad has reported five cases, whereas Dahod reported four cases. Porbandar, Navsari, Gir Somnath, and Sabarkantha have reported three cases each. The districts of Jamnagar, Tapi, Dang, Surendranagar, and Morbi have reported a case each.

According to the Health Department, out of the total cases, 27 people are in a critical state and put on ventilator support, 2,810 people are stable, 313 people have been discharged, and 151 have died. Information made available by the department also provides that 3,234 cases out of the total 3,301 are incidents of local transmission, 33 people have a history of international travel, and 34 have a history of inter-state travel.

As far as deaths are concerned, apart from the 104 deaths reported in Ahmedabad, 15 deaths have been reported from Surat and 12 deaths have been reported from Vadodara. Bhavnagar is trailing Vadodara with five deaths. Anand has reported three deaths. Gandhinagar, Bharuch, and Panchmahals have each reported two deaths, and one death each has been reported from Jamnagar, Botad, Kutch, Aravalli, Valsad, and Patan. Out of the 151 deaths, three had a history of international travel, three had a history of inter-state travel, and the rest 145 cases were incidents of local transmission.

So far, 39,535 people have been placed under quarantine.
