Gujarat on Sunday recorded 438 new COVID-19 cases and 31 new deaths due to the deadly virus in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of cases in the state now stands at 16,781, while the fatalities due to the disease increased to 1,038.
Of the total deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, 20 deaths were reported from Ahmedabad followed by three deaths in Panchmahals. Porbandar and Surat have each reported two deaths, whereas one death each has been reported from Amreli, Aravalli, Jamnagar, and Rajkot.
Ahmedabad continued to register the highest number of per day cases in the state. On Sunday, it recorded 299 such cases, followed by Surat and Vadodara that recorded 55 and 34 cases respectively. State capital Gandhinagar recorded 13 new cases, whereas Surendranagar reported five cases.
The death toll due to COVID-19 in Ahmedabad on Sunday stood at 842. The number of active cases in the state is 5,837. Surat and Vadodara come second and third in the number of cases and death.
