Covid-19 hits new high in Gujarat; 20,966 cases in 24 hours

  • 12 deaths recorded in Gujarat; Ahmedabad accounts for half of them


Gandhinagar: Gujarat recorded a fresh peak of daily Covid-19 cases for the second straight day, with 20,966 persons testing positive for the infection in 24 hours ending Wednesday evening. This was more than 22 per cent higher than the previous day’s tally of 17,119.

As many as 12 patients succumbed to the infection, taking the death toll to 10,186.


Over 8.3k cases in Ahmedabad alone

Ahmedabad city once again witnessed a new single-day jump with 8,391 fresh cases of Covid-19.

It was followed by Surat city with 3,318 cases, Vadodara city 1,998, Rajkot city 1,259 and Surat rural with 656 cases. Bhavnagar city recorded 526 cases, Gandhinagar city 446, Valsad 387, Bharuch 302

Navsari 278, Morbi 265, Mehsana 258, Jamnagar city 255, Vadodara rural 254, Anand 247 and Banaskanth 240.

Kutch recorded 194 cases, Gandhinagar 178, Kheda 168, Patan 151, Surendranagar 146, Ahmedabad rural 138 and Rajkot rural 127. The remaining places have less than 100 cases.


6 of 12 deaths in Ahmedabad alone

Ahmedabad city accounted for half of Gujarat’s death toll during the day with six patients in the city succumbing to the infection. Valsad and Sabarkantha reported two deaths, while Surat city and Bharuch recorded one death.

The active caseload in the state reached 90,726.


Recovery falls below 90%

A total of 9,828 patients recovered from the infection. So far, over 8.76 lakh patients have recovered, which is a recovery rate of 89.67 per cent.


2.02 lakh vaccinated on Wednesday

More than 2.02 lakh individuals received the Covid-19 vaccine in Gujarat on Wednesday. The cumulative vaccination coverage in the state is nearing 9.56 crore.
