Covid cases in Gujarat drop; 10,019 new cases, 2 deaths on Friday

  • Vaccination drops to 38,446, likely due to Uttarayan festivities

Gandhinagar: Gujarat recorded 10,019 fresh cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours ending Friday evening, a drop of more than 1,000 from the previous day’s tally when there were 11,176 cases.

Two deaths were reported in the state, taking the death toll to 10,144.

4 major cities continue to account for maximum cases

Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot cities had the maximum number of cases in the state. The daily tally of Vadodara crossed 1,000 during the day.

There were 3,090 cases in Ahmedabad, followed by 2,986 cases in Surat city, Vadodara city 1,274, Rajkot city 296, Surat rural 273, Bhavnagar city 225, Valsad 183, Gandhinagar city 142, Navsari 140, Bharuch 118, Mehsana 104 and Kutch 101.

Vadodara rural recorded 99 cases, Jamnagar city 79, Rajkot rural 77, Ahmedabad rural 74, Sabarkantha 70, Khedra 69, Anand and Patan 65, Gir Somnath 56, Junagadh city 49, Amreli 44, Gandhinagar rural and Morbi 38 each, Banaskantha 37, Panchmahals 31, Bhavnagar rural 30, Dahod and Surendranagar 27, Devbhumi Dwarka 24, Porbandar 23, Tapi 18, Jamnagar rural 14 and Mahisagar 13.

Narmada recorded 7, Dangs 6, Junagadh rural 3 and Aravalli and Chhota Udepur 2 each.

Valsad and Navsari reported one death each.

92.73% recovery; active caseload at 55.7k

A total of 4,831 patients recovered from Covid-19 on Friday. Over 8.4 lakh patients have recovered from the infection till now. The recovery rate has now dropped to 92.73 per cent.

The active caseload of Covid-19 cases in the state has reached 55,798. Of these, 54 are on ventilator.

Uttarayan festivities bring down vaccination, just 38.4k get the jab

Just 38,446 persons received the Covid-19 vaccine in Gujarat on Friday. The lower figure could be attributed to the festival of Uttarayan in the state.

The cumulative vaccination coverage in the state so far has crossed 9.44 crore.
