New Delhi: A day before the Covid-19 booster dose is made available for adults at private vaccination centres, the prices of both Covaxin and Covishield were brought down. Both the Covid-19 vaccines will now cost Rs 225 per dose.
Serum Institute of India manufactures Covishield in India while Covaxin is manufactured by Bharat Biotech.
SII CEO Adar Poonawalla and Bharat Biotech co-founder Suchitra Ella announced the price cuts on Saturday.
The Centre has announced that starting April 10, all adults will be able to take the precaution (booster dose) of Covid vaccine at a private vaccination centre, provided they have completed 9 months since taking the second dose.
The decision was welcomed by both the manufacturers, who then announced a price cut for the vaccines.
“We are pleased to announce that after discussion with the Central Government, SII has decided to revise the price of COVISHIELD vaccine for private hospitals from Rs.600 to Rs 225 per dose. We once again commend this decision from the Centre to open precautionary dose to all 18+,” Poonawalla tweeted.
“Announcing #CovaxinPricing. We welcome the decision to make available precautionary dose for all adults. In consultation with the Central Government, we have decided to revise the price of #COVAXIN from Rs 1200 to Rs 225 per dose, for #privatehospitals,” Ella tweeted.
