A session court in Ahmedabad on Thursday has rejected the bail application of accused Dr. Naresh Malhotra who allegedly asked for a 10% commission as a bribe on behalf of the Deputy Municipal Health Officer of AMC to get bills of approximately Rs1.5 crore of CIMS hospital to be passed.
The accused Dr. Naresh Malhotra of Aditya Hospital in Ahmedabad had asked for a bribe of Rs15 lakh on behalf of deputy municipal health officer – Arvind Patel for the bills to be passed for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
According to the MOU between AMC and CIMS hospital, the bills for COVID-19 patients, who were referred to by the government for treatment at the hospital, were to be sent to the health department of AMC for clearance.
As the complainant didn’t want to pay the commission he filed a complaint against Dr. Naresh Malhotra and was booked by the ACB.
Earlier, Ahmedabad Sessions Court had rejected Malhotra’s anticipatory bail application which he had filed to avert the arrest in the bribe case. After this, he moved the Gujarat High Court but did not get any relief there too. He then withdrew the anticipatory bail application. He was arrested by the ACB only on February 16 in connection with the bribe case.
