Coronavirus in India: Biggest single-day rise of 8,380 in 24 hours, death toll crosses 5,000

 The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has informed that India has reported its biggest single-day rise in coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours ending at 8 am on Sunday. The ministry said 8,380 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in the past 24 hours and 193 people have succumbed to COVID-19.

Following the addition of cases, the total COVID-19 case count in the country has surpassed 1.82 lakh, whereas death toll has crossed the 5,000-mark with 5,164 people dying due to the viral infection.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the country is now at 183,143 including 89,995 active cases. About 86,984 people have been cured and discharged.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state with 65,168 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu with 21,184 cases, Delhi with 18,549 cases, and Gujarat with 16,343 cases.

Meanwhile, the Centre has given several relaxations which will be introduced from June 1 amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases.
