One of the two cops arrested by UP police for tipping off gangster Vikas Dubey about his impending arrest has moved the Supreme Court for protection. Cop KK Sharma’s alleged tip off to Dubey about a raid at his house had led to the killing of eight cops on July 3 after the gangster’s men fired at the police team.
The petition filed by Sharma and his wife Vinita Sirohi sought a CBI probe into the incident. They expressed fear that they may be encountered in a similar fashion as other accused in the case including the main accused Vikas Dubey.
“Extra-judicial killings of other accused shows volumes about the conduct of Uttar Pradesh police department….It is clearly evident that the institutions tasked with the protection of law and order in the state have taken the law into their own hands and have been killing the accused as soon as arresting such people,” the petition said.
Sharma along with in-charge officer Vinay Tiwari of the Chaubeypur station house is alleged to have tipped off Dubey about the police operation against him.
Dubey who was on the run was later arrested from Ujjain in MP but killed in an encounter on the way to Kanpur. Earlier Dubey’s associates Prem Prakash Pandey, Atul Dubey and Amar Dubey were also killed in an encounter.
