New Delhi: Israel Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s offer to Indian PM Narendra Modi left not just the latter amused, but had the Congress make a jibe.

Responding to Bennett’s offer to Modi, Congress tweeted, “Great idea from PM Bennett; first step to save India.”

During an interaction on Tuesday on the sidelines of the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow in UK, Israel PM Bennett told Modi that he was the most popular man in Israel and invited him to join his party.

The compliment had Modi in splits. However, Congress, which is the main Opposition party in the country, took the opportunity to make a jibe at him.

“Enhancing friendship with Israel. Prime Ministers @narendramodi and @naftalibennett had a fruitful meeting in Glasgow. Both leaders discussed deepening various avenues of cooperation for the benefit of our citizens,” PMO India tweeted later on Tuesday.

Bennett, who heads a coalition government, took over as Israel PM in June this year, ending Benjamin Netanyahu’s 12-year rule.
