In what could be a major cause of concern for the authorities, Congress MLA from Jamalpur Khadia, Imran Khedawala, has tested positive for COVID-19. His test report came on Tuesday evening and the biggest cause of concern is that he had met CM Vijay Rupani, Deputy CM Nitin Patel and Home Minister Pradipsinh Jadeja in the afternoon to discuss ways on controlling the spread of coronavirus in the walled city areas of Ahmedabad.

Notably, the CM had met the three legislators from the walled city areas—Imran Khedawala, Gyasuddin Sheikh, and Shailesh Parmar— before a decision was taken to enforce curfew in these COVID-19 hotspot areas from April 15 to April 21 to contain the virus, which is spreading like wildfire.

Interestingly, Khedawala and Sheikh, an MLA from Dariyapur, had helped the local authorities in the fight against COVID-19 and convinced the residents of these areas to cooperate with them. Both the MLAs had visited these areas, met with people, and tried to create awareness on the deadly virus.

While it is not certain from where Khedawala contracted the viral infection, chances are that he could have contracted the virus during his visit to old-city areas to create awareness about COVID-19. A considerable number of people in the walled city areas were asymptomatic but tested positive for the virus. His sample was collected in the morning and the test results came in the evening.

Meanwhile, Khedawala has been admitted to SVP Hospital for treatment. Now, authorities are busy in tracking down people who had come in contact with him so that they can be tested for the virus and quarantined as a precautionary measure.

With the addition of the 53 fresh cases on Tuesday, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad has increased to 373—the highest in Gujarat. The city has also reported the maximum number of deaths in the state. After the death reported on Monday, the death toll due to the deadly virus increased to 13 in Ahmedabad.
