The Congress alleged, on Saturday, that the BJP has hatched a plot to murder All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge and his entire family. Randeep Singh Surjewala, AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka, released an audio clip of a purported conversation to support his claim. Meanwhile, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai promised an inquiry into the allegations. Chittapur BJP candidate denied the charge and said that the audio was fake and fabricated.
Randeep Singh Surjewala, AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka, released an audio clip of a purported conversation between Chittapur BJP candidate Manikanta Rathod and a local BJP leader in which Rathod is heard saying that he would “wipe off” the wife and children of Kharge. Surjewala said that the BJP was intimidated by the prospects of the Congress party and the BJP leadership had “hatched a ‘murder plot’ to kill the AICC president.” He added,” This was clear from the audio recording of Rathod “who also happens to be the ‘blue-eyed boy’ of PM Narendra Modi and CM Basavaraj Bommai.”
In the purported audio clip, a local BJP leader Ravi is heard asking Rathod – who is accused in several criminal cases – about the number of cases registered against him. The BJP candidate replies using expletives against Kharge and tells Ravi to get the list of “44 cases” registered against him from Congress leaders.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai promised an inquiry into the allegations, saying, “We will take the matter seriously. We will inquire into the whole thing and the law will take its action.” While, Manikanta Rathod denying the charge said that the audio was fake and fabricated by the Congress to malign him. He added that he had no intention of harming Kharge or his family and that he was confident of winning the election.
