Leader of Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly, Paresh Dhanani was detained after he sat on a token fast outside the Civil Hospital in the district. He went on the protest after his demand to have a COVID-19 testing facility in the district was not met. Dhanani was later taken to the police station and cops said he had not taken the requisite permission to hold the protest.
Dhanani in response said that he was a citizen of a democracy and it gave him the right to protest to get his demands heard. The Opposition leader had to be forcefully put in the police van after he refused to go with the cops.
Earlier Dhanani had told the media that this government was worse than the British. He said he had demanded a laboratory for testing of COVID-19 samples in Amreli as the district was registering a surge in cases but the government has not responded positively. He had on Friday visited the Civil Hospital in the district. At present the samples taken front the district are sent to Bhavnagar and Rajkot and hence adequate number of tests were not benign carried out in the district, he alleged.
