The examination for Company Secretaries (CS), which was scheduled to be held from June 1 to June 10, 2020 has been postponed till July. The examination for the foundation, executive and professional programme as well as the Post Membership Qualification examinations will now be held on July 6. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) in a release said that the decision to postpone the exam has been done taking into consideration the prevalent situation and the subsequent lockdown.
Abhishek Chhajed, Chairman, Ahmedabad Chapter said that given the lockdown and the fact that several of the cities where the exams were to be conducted are severely affected, it was imperative that the exam be postponed. “Moreover, even if it were to be held, we would not have been able to maintain social distancing,” said Chhajed. He further said that after the initial lockdown, classes had to be cancelled but soon the teaching had gone online so as to help students finish the course. “The issue is not of course completion due to the lockdown, as online teaching would have ensured that the course would have been completed, but of safety during the pandemic,” he said. Around 1500 students from Ahmedabad were expected to appear for the test.
Earlier the The Institute of Chartered Accountancy of India (ICAI) had also postponed its exams due to the pandemic. The chartered accountant examinations originally scheduled for May 2 to 18, 2002 was postponed to June 19 to July 4, 2020.
