At least 24 migrant labourers were killed and several others injured following a collision between a mini-truck and a trolley in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district on Saturday morning. The incident occurred on the national highway at Mihauli under Kotwali police circle.
The trolley which was carrying 81 migrant workers were on their way to Gorakhpur from Faridabad. Both the trucks were carrying the labourers.
“The accident took place in Mihauli in which 24 people died, and around 15 were injured. A trailer truck carrying around 50 migrant labourers was coming from Rajasthan and it collided with a mini truck,” a news agency quoted a source as saying. The truck was on its way from Delhi and heading towards Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh. The collision caused both the vehicle to go upside down.
The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.
Several accidents were reported from across the country since migrants have started to return to their home state. Many have taken to walking long distances to reach their homes.
