- The takeaway had been ordered from New Freezeland
Ahmedabad: A customer who had ordered food from a popular food joint on Science City road in Ahmedabad was in for a shock when she spotted a cockroach staring back at her from the food.
According to the complaint made to the health department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Sola resident Ami Mehta had ordered rajma and jeera rice online via Zomato from New Freezeland on Science City road. She paid Rs 246 for it.
However, when she opened the sealed food packet, she found the cockroach. Mehta has also alleged that there was intense stench coming from the food.
She immediately contacted the hotel management, but got an evasive reply. She then gave a complaint to Consumer Protection and Action Committee chief Mukesh Parikh.
Elaborating on the case, Parikh said, “We frequently receive complaints against the quality of food at hotels and restaurants in Gujarat. The health officers of government and AMC have been unable to effectively enforce the rules of Food Safety and Standards Act. The kitchens must be inspected.”
He alleged, “Consumers’ rights are just on paper. The health department does not carry out regular raids in the kitchens of hotels and restaurants.”
